Sprung?
SPRUNG?
O silver sky--
O scarlet-scattered maple
blossoming against
the slender bone-grey branch--
O wild greening gusting
wind-weft sky--
Not I.
O awkward egg--
O pipped, shell-chipping chicks
moist, fragile marvels
soon to shove, heave,
hop, peep, flap all feathery free--
Not me.
O in-rushing Spring--
O bird-bustling
bringer of singing
with pastures a-greening
Dashing the darkness,
splashing my toes with the dew--
How dare... oh!
How dear...
O, Darling!
Me too!
